APPLE WEEKEND
While the rest of the country celebrates National Apple Day, the theme is so loved in North Perrott that we need the whole weekend to fit everyone in!
The worshiping of our apples is so popular that it eventually reached the ears of Channel 5 researchers and was featured in their programme “Somerset – Wonder of the Westcountry”. The programme aired in March 2024 and has generated even more interest in what we are doing, so please come and celebrate with us this October.

APPLE DAY
What Happens?
Apple Tasting is at the heart of our Apple Weekend. We grow over 40 varieties on the farm as well as pears. Many are also made into juice on the farm and Jonathan is available to discuss and taste our fruity produce throughout the weekend.
Tractors in the Field is run by our local media star Ivor James. Ivor and his friends collect and restore vintage tractors and a display of interesting tractors, machinery and stationary engines takes place in the field oposite the farm shop. Ivor runs the tractor rides around the Orchards and they love to do a bit of ploughing if the weather allows.

The Craft Fair is held just on Saturday for 2025, to coincide with our Apple Weekend, in the Hoskyns Memorial Hall, located near the village green. The short walk to the village hall passes the old telephone box that contains lots of interesting local information and a heritage trail around the village. St. Martin’s 12th century church is a short walk down Church Lane.
Our Farm Shop and Cafe is open as usual over the weekend and we will be serving a special refreshment menu to ensure we can keep up with the busy demands of Apple Weekend.

It is a showcase of the beauty and character of the county and focuses on landscapes, tourism, local business and interesting characters in the area, Our farm is featured in the 5th episode and centres on our Apple Weekend and the interaction we have with our vistors and their families. Anwen was particularly prominent because she was featured on the programme trailer for weeks ahead of the first broadcast. It is available to view for free on My5

Mud Sweat & Tractors: the story of agriculture.
Was an educational programme made in 2009 by Available Light for BBC4. It was about the development of agriculture in Britain over the previous 60 years and broadcast in 4 episodes covering Milk, Fruit & Vegetable, Beef and Wheat. The premise was to find farms that had a cinematic record from the 1950’s and were still in the same family hands in 2009. The programme narrates the progress of farming over that timescale and explains what were the driving forces of change and the consequences that they brought about. Despite now being 15 years old, for those interested in the history and development of modern farming, this is a fascinating series that covers from a time of food rationing to overproduction and cheap food. While originally aired on BBC4 in the early hours, it has since been repeated many times, including on BBC2 at peak times. It is available free to view on youtube.
