Jupiter is a triploid relation to Cox, which means it has large fruit but infertile pollen. An attempt by plant breeders to create a “super” Cox, the market didn’t take to it, ultimately because there was no room for another Cox variety. Such a shame, it’s a growers apple, producing large crops of delicious apples. Sadly they were a bit to large for customers to eat but conversley, the larger the better as far as juicing is concerned. Similar flavour to Cox, if a smidgen sharper, it is classified as medium rather than sweet. Refreshing and complex flavour.
